If you're living with selective mutism — this one's for you.

Not for your parents. Not about who you were as a little kid. For you, right now.

A private, no-pressure place to practice the moments that feel impossible — at your own pace, with no one watching. I'd like you to have it, free. And if you're up for it, I'd love your help making it into something that actually works.

No cost. No catch. No pressure to be anything but yourself.

I think I get a little of it

You can talk fine with the people closest to you. And then out in the world the words just… won't come. It's not that you don't want to — it's that you can't, and people read it as rude or cold or stuck-up, and you carry that. It's exhausting. And somewhere in there is a quiet worry about what your future looks like if this doesn't change.

I'm Bob. I'm not a doctor — I'm a dad. My daughter grew up with selective mutism, and I watched up close how heavy it is, and how much courage the small stuff takes. I built BraveVoiceJourney for her, and for people like you who are still in the middle of it and deserve something made with you in mind.

What it actually is

It's called video self-modeling — and it's simpler than it sounds. You practice brave moments privately, on your phone, on your own terms. No audience. No one to speak to first. No one judging. Just you, going at whatever pace feels right — one small step at a time.

It won't fix everything, and I'd never promise that. But a lot of people find that practicing where it's safe makes the real moment a little less impossible. Small steps count. They count more than you'd think.

Here's the honest ask

I'm not looking for customers. I'm looking for a handful of people who actually get it to have this for free — and help me shape it into something genuinely useful for you and for the next person who feels this way.

So here's the deal:

  • A full, free account. Everything unlocked. Yours to keep and use however helps.
  • Zero obligation. Use it just for yourself. That alone is more than enough.
  • But if you ever feel like it — I'd love to hear what's working, what videos you wish existed, or how you'd want to be supported. No forms to fill out, no commitment. Just a real person (me) who'll read every word if you decide to share.

You wouldn't be a test subject. You'd be helping build the thing you wish had existed — for yourself, and for everyone still looking for their way through.

Welcome. Whether you're here for yourself or for someone you love, we're really glad you found this. Before you start, we want to be honest with you about what BraveVoiceJourney is — and what it isn't.

  • A place to practice, at your pace. BVJ is a wellness and practice tool — a private, low-pressure space to rehearse brave moments on your own terms. It isn't medical treatment or therapy, and it isn't meant to replace care from a professional.
  • Not a diagnosis, not a cure. BVJ doesn't diagnose, treat, or cure selective mutism or any other condition. What it offers is practice — and practice matters.
  • You don't have to do this alone. Selective mutism is real, and it helps to have a qualified professional in your corner — a psychologist, speech-language pathologist, or doctor. BVJ works best alongside that kind of support. But you're welcome here whether or not you have someone right now.
  • Progress looks different for everyone. Video self-modeling is a promising, evidence-informed practice. We can't promise a specific outcome or timeline. Small, steady steps are real progress, and they count.
  • Who's here. I'm either an adult using BVJ for myself, or I'm a parent, guardian, or someone with permission setting it up for a person in my care — and I'll look out for their wellbeing as they use it.
  • If things get really hard. BVJ isn't a crisis service. If you're in a dark place or thinking about hurting yourself, please reach out to a professional or a crisis line (in the US, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). [Localize this resource per user region where possible.]
  • You've got this — one step at a time. Showing up here already took courage. Whatever your pace, you're welcome, and there's no wrong way to start.

Start whenever you're ready.
